How do you make the caramel/chocolate thick on gourmet apple?

I made really good gourmet apples last night but it seemed to be thick on the top and bottom only. How do I make it evenly thick??

    paula deen has a recipe on foodnetwork. com for candied apples. check it out!!!

    when you pour the mix over the apple you can get just the top and bottoms only. Make sure the apple is very dry. Wipe off any moisture before starting. You could place the mixture in a bowl so you can dunk the whole apple in it to be sure that all is evenly coated. then go back and get the top and bottom again if need be. You may need to dunk more than once.
