How many cups of water do I mix with the rice to make 1 cup of long grain & wild rice?

roxani3 asked:

I am missing the part of the package that says how much water to use. The brand I happen to be using is Gourmet House. Thanks for your help in advance!

Wild rice uses a 3 – 1 liquid to rice ratio. Long Grain rice uses a 2 – 1 ratio. If you had 1/2 cup wild rice and 1/2 cup of long grain, you would use 2 1/2 cups liquid.

  • Katrina L:

Generally, you would use 1 3/4 cups water to 1 cup of rice.

Use 2 cups liquid (water, broth, wine) to 1 cup of uncooked rice.

Sautee the rice briefly in a little butter or olive oil until fragrant, then add the liquid and a dash of salt and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover the pan, and simmer for 40-45 minutes.

    I went to their website:

2 1/4 (two and one quarter cups) is the amount indicated to make the wild/long grain rice mix…..Enjoy!!

White rice is measured by allowing twice as much water as there is rice, i.e. 1 cup uncooked rice + 2 cups of water = 4 cups cooked rice.
As for wild rice, according to the library, there is a 3 to 1 liquid ratio; in other words, 1 cup uncooked wild rice + 3 cups of water = 4 cups of cooked wild rice…BUT, since you peaked my curiosity, i found a bag of wild rice in my cabinet. It reads: 1 cup uncooked rice yields about 4 cups cooked. It says meaure 1 cup uncooked rice and add 2/1/2 cups water–be sure NOT to lift the lid until time is up–but i have a hard time with that–go figure–no wonder we never have wild rice! lolol
