What is a gourmet recipe that can be made with common household ingredients?

I love to cook, but I’m getting tired of making casseroles, fairly plain chicken dishes, and burgers/steaks for my family. I’m interested in a yummy new recipe that can be made with most of the ingredients you find in your average household. Seafood, poultry, beef, and international recipes all welcome!!! Thank you! :)

    I used to love experimenting, but its just my husband and I now. even though I work from home, I live by the slow cooker!! try this site, you might like it! I used to come up with some whacky concoctions, but everyone liked them. I still make some of them!!

    Any recipy will probably work if you visit the local farmers markets. Try to work in your recipe few days ahead. Make preparation on portioning things and measuring your ingridients before you start your coking.

    Don’t worry about making your food looks like these in magazines as long as taste good you are good to go.

    i use this book from Cooking Light magazine, called Super Fast Suppers… the book has a whole chapter on the staples you should keep around the house that you can make tons of different recipes from.. the ingredients include stuff like dried pasta, canned tomatoes, canned beans, baby spinach, minute rice, other canned veggies, etc. Very plain items turned into very YUMMY dishes.
    Actually, most of the Cooking Light mags have recipes like that… you can’t find it in the magazine section of your grocery store, or try Amazon.com to find the books
    PS: they are all low-cal too!!! And delicious, i hated “diet” recipes till I found Cooking Light!

    Gourmet fry up:
    potatoes (any kind, russet, red, new) scrubbed and sliced thin
    apple (again, any kind) cored and sliced
    meat: bacon or sausage (or ham, turkey, or tofu)
    onion (yellow, white, red, or green)
    garlic
    olive oil.

    Saute onion and garlic in olive oil. Add meat and cook. (Optional: drain grease at this point, it depends on how crisp you’d like your potatoes and apples) Add potatoes and apples; reduce heat to medium low, cover. Cook for 5 minutes, stir. Cover and cook until potatoes are done and apples are soft but brown, stirring often and adjusting heat so the potatoes cook evenly.
    Season with salt and pepper.
    A side of scrambled eggs and some toast and that’s either dinner or breakfast!

    I just bought Rachel Ray’s “365 no repeats” cookbook. Have made 5 meals with it so far, with 4 1/2 successes. The 1/2 is a meal we liked, but that tasted just OK. The rest were fantastic. And everything is a 30-minute meal, with very common ingredients.

    Take a package of boneless, skinless chicken ******* that are thawed and marinate them in Italian oil and vinegar dressing for two days.

    Grill them until done. (about 5 min. on both sides because they cook faster when impregnated with the oil and vinegar)

    Serve them with steamed asparagus or your favorite vegetable, and a twice baked potatoe, and get one of the sauce mixes at the grocery store that you can make up easily. eg. Bernaise

    Prepare the sause and pour it over the chicken right before serving.
